Onyxia_-_25_medium

Going against the grain of most tributes to Onyxia, we won't be linking the most awesome fight recording ever (having said that, anyone who hasn't heard this Vanilla Classic is living a life unexamined). We will say that the Grande Dame of Vanilla WoW is back, and she's better than ever!

The Ony fight consists of three phases, and remain substantively the same as they were in Vanilla. P1 is a straight forward tank and spank; no more waiting for three sunders before dps starting verrrrry slooooowwwly, but a bigger tail swipe area can lead to a surprise visit to the Orlando Bloom caves (and a raving RL). P2 starts at 65%, and has Ony taking flight while calling in reinforcements, both from Orlando's cave (yay 2 fps-inducing AoE), and elite dragonkin that are tanked near the entrance and dps'ed by melee. Range and melee coordinate a time for limited adds to bring Ony to 40%, where we start P3. Deep Breaths are an absolute joy in P2; they come at irregular intervals but are very easy to avoid. P3 starts with Ony landing, and is essentially a repeat of P1 with occasional fears thrown in; this is made trivial by shaman avec totems. Ony, while a challenging encounter for those who hadn't seen her before, was a quick kill for TDC.

Recycled content is a tricky area for Blizzard; it can be a nice trip down memory lane (and the loot is nice), but too much of it takes a lot of the joy out of raiding. Ony will remain on the schedule for a while (it's an easy 15 minute run and the loot is solid), but let's hope that Blizzard has more in store for us come 3.3 and Cataclysm.

PS - I wish Ymer would stop calling her fat...
