Lovecraftian Nightmares, chapter 2
Yogg-Saron. The end of the line in Ulduar. The Old God who's the cause of all this drama. Yogg-Saron was all that stood between TDC and a clear instance. It was just a matter of time.
The Yogg fight is a very complicated engagement that is a challenge for any raider. The fight consists of three phases, each of which require every member of the raid team to do their job flawlessly in order to triumph.
The first phase is focused on managing adds that spawn around Sara, while avoiding the poison clouds that drift arount the room. Once eight adds are killed, the fight transitions to P2; P2 is the most hectic phase, as it requires a team to manage various tentacle adds that spawn in Yogg's room, while a team of 10 must enter Yogg's brain room. Various dream sequences occur in the brain room, and the DPS must burn down random adds in order to bring the shield to Yogg's brain down. Once the shield is down, the DPS must burn Yogg's brain, exiting the room after a set period of time in order to avoid insanity. P2 typically requires 3 iterations of this activity, after which the raid transitions to P3. P3 again requires split DPS, as some members of the raid must focus on Yogg while the rest of the DPS must bring down adds quickly before they overwhelm the raid. There's lots going on, and every raider must be on their toes.
This fight was a true challenge for TDC. We worked on the phases on multiple raid nights, making continuous progress towards our inevitable kill of Yogg. This is the first fight in a long time that caused the raid Vent to erupt in cheers and sighs of relief once the big ugly toad was pushing daisies. Great work TDC, and on to Icecrown Citadel and the final battle with Arthas!
